Children of Doom is an annual science festival in Berlin that brings together a community of hopeful but critical people who firmly believe in working together to find solutions to global challenges. The festival stands for innovative science communication and uses the stylistic device of dystopia to draw the necessary attention to the pressing issues of the time.
The premiere took place in May 2019 at the Hafen Rummelsburg. Children of Doom 2020 will take place again at the same location from 15-16 May.
The concept of Children of Doom is based on the following 3 elements:
Science - Survival - Sustainability
At the 2020 festival, the focus will be on biotechnology, artificial intelligence and climate change. High-calibre talks and a large number of interactive workstations will spark constructive discussions on future topics and promote scientifically based interactions in this regard.
We are looking forward to further submissions of exciting papers even after the closing of our Call for Papers. Please send them via e-mail to jan.bartholomae@messe-berlin.de. We will check if there are still open speaker slots and get back to you asap.
Send us a brief description of your topic and its relevance for the Children of Doom including how you will engage with the festival audience and face the challenge of explaining your (most likely) complex topic to an audience with various backgrounds and levels of education. Preference will be given to lectures that offer a form of interaction with the audience. This turned out to be particularly popular in the 2019 event.
What’s in it for you?
Each person submitting a talk will receive a full complimentary conference pass to Children of Doom.
