In this session, Buck Woody will show you an example of each of these, and a process to choose the right technology based on your workload.

SQL Server 2019 Big Data Clusters Architecture

Large sets of data from multiple locations are common-place in most organizations. You need a way to ingress, process, and serve that data with technologies from relational data queries through scale-out non-relational methods. Microsoft SQL Server's Big Data Clusters provide an on-premises or in-cloud method to store, virtualize, process, model and server data from any source. In this session, Buck Woody will show you how to plan, install and configure this new system.

Secure AI: Machine Learning In-Database

Microsoft SQL Server has multiple methods to create, train, and serve Machine Learning models. The advantages of using SQL Server for this process are that the data stays completely contained within the security boundaries of your SQL Server environment, your developers use familiar Transact-SQL statements to interact with the model, and Data Scientists use the tool of their choice – Python or R to develop models. In this session Buck Woody, an Applied Data Scientist will lead you through the concepts of Machine Learning in SQL Server and show you two practical tutorials you can use at your organization.

Consciousness, Curiosity and Courage in Your Career

You can’t help others if you don’t take care of yourself. “Do unto others as you would have done to you”, “love others as you love yourself” implies that you want good things for yourself. This session deals with pursuing your career goals while helping others achieve theirs.

What we’ll cover:
How to take control of your career
How to learn more, faster
How to take calculated risks
How to help others as you grow

Data Literacy

Businesses require a high level of data literacy in every role within an organization, and it is assumed these skills are gained in primary or secondary education. However, many of these skills are not given the proper amount of time or consideration during this phase of training, and students are often left to fill in the gaps on their own.

This session provides a prescriptive methodology and references to learn the basics and go much deeper into each of the data literacy topics than primary education provides, and allows a modular approach to learning. You're able to move through the material quickly over areas you already know, and take your time on the areas you need to know more about.

(Also available as a full workshop)

Find a mentor, be a mentor

As part of your continuing development as a technical professional, you need to add mentoring to your list. A mentor is someone who guides you in your career – someone who’s been there, who knows where the mistakes are, and who cares about your progression. But it doesn’t stop there. Even as you are being mentored, you need to “pay it forward” and mentor someone else.

You might wonder where to find a mentor, and you might be a little intimidated about becoming one yourself. In this session, we’ll cover both – how to find a mentor to help you with your career, and how to become a stakeholder in someone else’s career. You’ll learn the options you have, the processes you can follow, and the practical applications of being mentored and becoming a mentor.
