7 things I learned from coaching and investing in cloud startups

Not many companies are more exciting to work for than cloud startups. Employees at a startup are really making an impact with every decision that is taken. The difference with working in the enterprise world is huge.
In this session, Sam will share several things and insights he gained from working with several software (cloud) startups. Seven things that he believes can be applied to many projects and products. He will discuss architectural principles, technology choices, and quality decisions and their impact on the success of the startup. But the session will also cover some business aspects, such as pricing models and feature priorities.

From Backend to Full-Stack: My Azure startup odyssey with .NET MAUI and Blazor

After having spent years, journeying through the world of software consultancy, where I helped building and eventually selling a software company, I recently became a founder of a brand-new startup.

For me, this meant transitioning from the comfort zone of backend integrations (where I spent my entire carreer) to suddenly also wearing the hats of a mobile app and website developer. With no prior experience in these domains, I quickly had to learn a lot of things, most of them new to me.

Join me as I delve into how Blazor and .NET MAUI became important in this transition, as they lowered the learning curve for a Backend developer as myself.

- You will learn how to build (web and mobile) apps, by reusing as much as possible code, with Hybrid Blazor and .NET MAUI.
- You will also see how to leverage authentication and security with Azure Active Directory B2C.
- I will demonstrate how I have enabled automated testing with SpecFlow (backend) and Cypress (front end).

This session isn't just about coding; it's about adapting, learning, and overcoming in the ever-evolving tech landscape.

Azure Assured: pragmatic Azure testing

Let's face it – writing tests often feels like a boring, thankless task. It's the spinach of software development: we know it's good for us, but it doesn't always taste great...

In this demo-oriented session, you will learn how pragmatic testing, especially within the versatile Azure ecosystem, can evolve from a cumbersome task into an efficiency-enhancing practice.

I will focus on the aspect of testing for end-to-end applications deployed on Microsoft Azure. The focus will be on dissecting and mastering three critical facets of application testing: Unit Tests, Integration Tests, and Front-End Tests.

I will leverage SpecFlow, Xunit, Cypress.io and Azure Load Testing and demonstrate their value and how they can be integrated in your software release pipelines.
