                     2024 HSC Annual Conference Call for Presenters

Head Start California invites YOU to submit a proposal to present at the upcoming 2024 Annual Conference. The event will be held February 26 - March 1, 2024, in person at the Hilton Long Beach.

The Head Start California Annual Conference is the Association’s signature event where you will have the opportunity to gain experience and recognition presenting in front of a statewide Head Start audience!

Proposals MUST address health disparities and inequities wherever possible and appropriately integrate current issue areas. 


Parent & Family Engagement Conference (February 26-27)

HSC’s Parent & Family Engagement conference provides training for Head Start parents and the staff who work with and support of parents & families. The conference will include the latest content and updates from the Office of Head Start.

Audience: Head Start Parents/Guardians, Parent Involvement Coordinator, Policy Council Members, Family Service Outreach Workers & Advocates.

Conference Tracks:

Home Visiting

Family Engagement

Collaboration

Parent Leadership

School Readiness/Transition

Special consideration will be given to topics on the following subjects:

Workshops submitted on the following topics in both English AND Spanish

• Male Engagement/Fatherhood

• Responses to Stress & Grief with Children

• Parents as Partners: parents as the child’s first teacher, how to better support parents partnering with their child’s teacher

• Dealing with Challenging Behaviors

• How to discuss racism with children

• Milestone development

• Social bias and challenges parents of color endure

• Collaboration

• Home Visiting / Family Engagement

• Trauma Response Practices for Staff and Families


Education Conference (February 28-March 1)

HSC’s Education Conference advances the knowledge and skills of those involved in the education of the children aged zero – to five. This event imparts developmentally appropriate practices, teaches critical new skills, and broadens awareness to Head Start educators.

Audience: Teachers, Site Managers, Home Based Supervisors, Child Development & Education Managers, Family & Community Partnership Managers, & Program Directors for both Head Start & Early Head Start.

Governance & Leadership

School Readiness/Transition

Data/Assessment

Reducing Bias/Increasing Equity

Special consideration will be given to topics on the following subjects:

• Dealing with Challenging Behaviors

• Wellness for both the child and the teacher

• Leadership challenges

• How to create a culturally competent classroom

• Children with different capacities

• Strengthening Infant/Toddler Mental Health & Caregiver relationships

• Assessment tools for children with special needs

• Early Head Start

Proposals MUST be original, align with Head Start Performance Standards, and address inequities wherever possible and appropriately integrate current issue areas. 

As a nonprofit association, Head Start California does not pay an honorarium for workshop presentations. Presenters must also cover their own travel and printing expenses. HSC offers workshop handouts online.

Primary presenter and up to two co-presenters will receive a complimentary registration, which will be provided if your proposal is accepted. Additional Co-Presenters (3rd +) will be offered discounted registration fee of $150 per presenter
