General CFP Guidelines

The Capitol of Texas Chapter of ISSA is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization. We operate on the goodwill of our community, and the only compensation we can offer speakers is the sincere thanks of our members and the opportunity to share their knowledge with a dedicated audience.

All submissions must be educational in nature. While security vendors are welcome to present on security-related topics or research, all content must be strictly vendor-agnostic and may not, under any circumstances, be a sales pitch for a product or service.

Please note that due to the volume of submissions and our event scheduling, your submission may not receive a response for over a year. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

CFP Application Questions

To apply, presenters should submit a proposal that answers the following questions:

  • Talk Title: A concise and engaging title for your presentation.
  • Abstract: A brief summary (100-200 words) of your talk. This is what would be used for event promotion.
  • Detailed Description: A more in-depth description (200-500 words) of the presentation, including key takeaways and learning objectives for the audience.
  • Target Audience: Who is this talk best suited for? (e.g., Beginners, Intermediate Practitioners, CISOs/Directors).
  • Speaker Bio: A short professional biography (100-150 words). Please include any relevant certifications, experience, or speaking history.
  • Presentation Format: Is this a 20-30 minute talk, a 45-60 minute talk, or a longer workshop?

Blind CFP Review Process

Our blind review panel will evaluate submissions based on the quality of the content. To ensure a fair and impartial review, all personally identifiable information, such as the speaker's name and company, will be redacted from the proposal before it is presented to the panel.

The panel will score each submission based on its suitability for the following potential event types and audiences:

  • Events: Quarterly Meeting, Innotech, or other special events.
  • Audiences: CISO/Director/Management, Practitioners, Sales/Marketing, Students & Rookies.

The panel's decision will focus solely on the quality of the presentation content, its educational value, and its relevance to the ISSA community.

Non-Blind Information

After the blind review panel has made its selections, the following information will be considered by the event organizers to finalize the schedule and logistics:

  • Location: Do you live within a reasonable driving distance of Austin, TX? (This helps with scheduling in-person events).
  • Speaking History: Have you delivered this talk before? Please provide details on where and, if available, links to videos of the presentation.

Again, we want to reiterate our thanks for your interest in sharing your expertise with the ISSA Central Texas community. We look forward to reviewing your submission.
