Share Your Expertise at Code Camp Wellington!
Our FREE Code Conference.

We’re looking for passionate speakers to present at a volunteer-run, technology-agnostic event designed to inspire and connect our local tech community.

Why speak?

  • Showcase your ideas to an audience eager to learn
  • Diverse topics welcome: from hot technologies to career development
  • Support an inclusive, free conference for the Wellington tech scene

Each year we aim to have something for everyone. From sessions on low-level technical deep-dives to strategies and techniques on setting up your career. Everyone has a story to tell and your story could be the next one to help inspire and grow our tech community!

Our tracks include:

  • Code On Screen: Show us the code! Tell us why you think it's important, and what we need to know.
  • Careers & Teams: What does it take to build a rewarding career in tech, and how do we contribute to teams that succeed?
  • Hot & New: What's the latest hot technology that we need to be paying attention to?
  • Cool & Fun: If it's tech you think is cool (or fascinating or surprising) then we probably will too.

Submit your proposal and help shape a day of learning and collaboration!

Code Camp Wellington welcomes session proposals from anyone in the tech community, from seasoned speakers to those taking the stage for the very first time. Our goal is to build a program that reflects a wide range of experiences, ideas, and voices.

To help you understand what we’re looking for, here are the types of sessions and topics that fit well within our event:

Tracks

Your proposal can sit within any of our four tracks:

  • Code on Screen – Deep technical talks, programming languages, frameworks, architecture, tools, testing, and live coding.
  • Careers & Teams – Leadership, collaboration, culture, communication, career development, mentoring, and team dynamics.
  • Hot & New – Fresh ideas, experimental technologies, early-stage tools, research, or anything emerging and forward-looking.
  • Cool & Fun – Creative, entertaining, playful, or unconventional sessions that inspire curiosity or showcase tech in surprising ways.

Session Formats

We offer two session lengths:

  • Lightning Talks (10 minutes) – Short, high-energy talks ideal for focused ideas or for first-time speakers building confidence.
  • Breakout Sessions (45 minutes) – Longer sessions for deeper exploration, demos, hands-on content, interactive discussions, or more complex topics.

Who We Encourage to Submit

Everyone. Truly.

We strongly encourage first-time speakers and people from underrepresented groups in tech to put forward a proposal. If you'd like support, we provide optional speaker mentoring and guidance to help you shape your idea and prepare your session.

Audience and Expertise Levels

We welcome sessions aimed at any skill level; beginner, intermediate, advanced, or “all welcome.” Feel free to propose anything from introductory concepts to expert deep dives; a diverse program benefits everyone!

Code of Conduct

All speakers and submissions must align with our community values and adhere to our Code of Conduct: https://www.codecampwellington.nz/#code-of-conduct

Code Camp Wellington is a free, volunteer-run event. Our sponsorship funding goes directly toward essential costs such as venue hire, hosting, morning tea, and cleaning. Because of this, we’re not able to cover individual speaker expenses (e.g., travel or accommodation). We appreciate your understanding and your contribution to making this community event possible.
