DDD Melbourne 2024

event date

16 Mar 2024

location

Melbourne Town Hall Melbourne, Australia

DDD Melbourne is an inclusive non-profit conference for the software community. Our goal is to create an approachable event that appeals to the whole community, especially people who usually don’t have the opportunity to attend, or speak at, conferences. We do this by:

  • Making the ticket price as low as possible
  • Running the event on a Saturday
  • Allowing anyone to submit about any software industry related topic
  • Providing training on writing a great abstract for potential speakers that are unsure about submitting
  • Having a democratically chosen agenda
  • Focussing on creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone is welcome
  • Providing free childcare options for the duration of the main conference

Furthermore, DDD Melbourne aims to both create opportunities for underrepresented minorities, juniors and first-time speakers to present as well as influence the wider software industry to encourage such opportunities more broadly.

What does DDD stand for?

DDD Melbourne started out its life as part of the Developer! Developer! Developer! series of events and while our heritage is as a developer-focussed conference, DDD Melbourne is not just for developers, but for all professionals in the software industry. These days we don't expand DDD - it's not an acronym for us anymore, but if people insist then we might say Designer, Developer and Data Scientist, or is it DevOps, Data architect, distributed tester?

DDD Melbourne is an inclusive non-profit conference for the Melbourne software community.

We welcome presentations from any topic relevant to the software industry; if voters think your presentation is interesting, it's in!

In the past we've had a huge range of presentations including the following topics: Agile, building great teams, UI design, software testing, virtual reality, women in tech, web accessibility, open source software, feedback culture, self-employment tips, mentoring, Scrum, pair programming, bots, IoT, machine learning, neural networks, quantum encryption, Assembly language, automated deployments, mobile development, mobile test automation, architecture, microservices, serverless, APIs, GraphQL, actors, JavaScript, authentication, React, UWP, HTTP protocol, Git, Docker and pointers.

Before submitting a presentation please consider the following:

  • We have an enforced code of conduct to ensure a friendly atmosphere.
  • We have anonymous presentation voting; we will only show the title, abstract and tags of a talk to voters to remove unconscious bias.
  • You will likely be speaking to an audience of between 80-180 people.
  • You are welcome to submit a talk with a co-presenter or as a team.
  • If you're interested but not sure how to write a great session submission, then register for one of our Speaker Proposal Training sessions.

We have 2 presentation sizes you can choose from: 20 minutes and 45 minutes.

Presentations are not a sales presentation although you are welcome to have a slide or two about yourself and your company.

You will probably have internet access, but you should have a backup plan in case it's unavailable.

We will open voting on November 8th 2023. If your presentation gets voted in and you agree to present, then this is a serious commitment.

You are welcome to submit more than one presentation, if you have multiple presentations that are voted in then we will either ask you to select one or select the highest voted talk to maximise the number of speaking opportunities we offer.

If your talk is selected, training will be available to help you be the best speaker you can be.

Questions? Fire off an email to speakers@dddmelbourne.com and we'll get right back to you :)
