Google I/O Extended Pwani 2026

event date

1 Aug 2026

location

Mombasa, Kenya

Google I/O 2026 wrapped on 20 May in Mountain View, and GDG Pwani is bringing the local edition to you.

Google I/O Extended Pwani 2026 is our community's full-day, hands-on response to the biggest developer conference of the year.

This year's I/O centred on one shift: from AI that assists to AI that acts. Key updates included Gemini 3.5, Antigravity 2.0, Android 17, WebMCP, and Firebase's AI Studio integration. We will spend the day unpacking, discussing, and building on them together.

This event will transform the I/O experience from something you see online to an opportunity to learn and build on new technology.

Who should come? Android developers, web developers, Flutter engineers, AI/ML practitioners, Firebase developers, cloud architects, and students. All experience levels are welcome.

This year’s I/O marked a massive shift: from AI that assists to AI that acts. Google I/O Extended Pwani 2026 will be a full-day, hands-on experience where we stop just watching the future online and start building it together.

We are looking for passionate developers, architects, tech leads, and innovators to take the stage. If you have been experimenting with Google’s latest tech stack, we want to hear your story, see your live demos, and learn from your architecture.

What We Expect from Submitted Sessions

We want our attendees to walk away with practical, actionable knowledge. Your session should align with one of our core themes:

  • AI That Acts (Gemini 3.5 & Agents): Move beyond simple prompt engineering. We want sessions on building autonomous agents, multimodal applications, and real-world implementations using Gemini 3.5.
  • Next-Gen Web & Mobile: How are you leveraging Android 17 to build smarter mobile experiences? Got a deep dive into the new Antigravity 2.0 framework or advanced UI patterns? Show us.
  • The AI-Powered Backend: Bring us your architectures using WebMCP (Model Context Protocol) or showcase how you are accelerating development with Firebase’s new AI Studio integration.
  • Design & Cloud Ecosystems: Sessions covering modern UI/UX for AI applications, Google Cloud integrations, and sustainable development practices utilizing the new I/O stack.

Session Criteria & Formats

To give your proposal the best chance of acceptance, ensure it hits these markers:

  • Actionable & Practical: Less theory, more code. Attendees should be able to apply what they learn the very next day. Live demos, GitHub repos, and architectural diagrams are highly encouraged.
  • Tailored to the Audience: Pwani’s developer community ranges from enthusiastic students to seasoned tech leads. Clearly state the target skill level (Intermediate, Advanced) in your submission.
  • Authentic: We love hearing about real challenges, edge cases, and how you solved them. Don't just tell us what the documentation says—tell us what happened when you actually built it.

Submission Guidelines

Ready to inspire the Pwani tech ecosystem? Submit your proposal with:

  • A catchy, clear Session Title.
  • A compelling Abstract (tell us what you will cover and why it matters).
  • Key Takeaways (what will the audience walk away with?).
  • Your Bio and links to any previous speaking engagements or open-source work (if applicable).
