IndabaX is a locally-organised Indaba (i.e., gathering) that aims to enhance knowledge and build capacity in machine learning and artificial intelligence across individual countries in Africa.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Human-Centric AI for a Digital Nigeria.” Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have rapidly advanced over the years. As technology continues to improve, its impact on the economy with respect to productivity, growth, equality, market power, innovation, and employment cannot be overemphasized. AI has historically been seen as a black box, thus making it impersonal. How can we break this trend by putting humans back at the center of AI products?
We welcome submissions from the general public. These could be any of:
It's okay if this is your first time speaking or presenting at a conference, we all have a first time.
Topic Ideas
If you don't know what topics to pick, please consider some of the following:
Submission Guidelines
Research papers must be original and on topics at the intersection of AI/ML and health, security, privacy, or other related areas.
Paper submissions should be in double-column ACM format (excluding the bibliography and well-marked appendices) and not more than 12 pages.
Submissions must be in English and properly anonymized (non-identifying information in datasets).
All accepted Abstract submissions will be presented at the workshop in a poster session.
One author of each accepted paper will be required to attend the conference to present the paper for it to be included in the proceedings. However, they do not have to attend the workshop in person. They can present their paper remotely.
BEST PAPER AWARD
We look forward to your outstanding contributions. There will be an award for the best paper selected by the reviewers.

It is against this background that we call for short proposals (2000–3000 words) that will kick start educational conversations around AI and inform policy. Your proposal could be for a paper, presentation, workshop, or a poster presentation.
The paper should clearly state the research goals, elaborate on the methods used, and discuss the results in order to allow the scientific committee to assess their quality. Ongoing research is not welcome, as we expect a clear indication of the research's conclusions. Please note that only original contributions will be considered for presentation at the conference.
Accommodation will be provided at the venue for confirmed speakers.
