Planet Nix is an event hosted by Flox and co-located with the SCALE conference in Pasadena, CA.

We are hoping to create an event with something for those of all skill levels. You don’t have to be a wizard to teach at Planet Nix, and you also don’t have to be a newbie to learn! Nix doesn’t have to be your full-time job to present at Planet Nix, but it also doesn’t have to *not* be your job.

There will be two tracks across two days. The schedule will provide for a mix of talks and workshops, and we encourage you to help attendees get hands-on experience with Nix.

The event will have two parallel tracks and take place over two days. Speakers can submit proposals for talks, workshops, or both. Each day will have a mix of both talks and workshops, and there will be a lightning talk session on one of the days. Speakers may make multiple submissions, but will be limited to one accepted talk or workshop. The submission types are below:

  • Workshop (90 minutes)
  • Long talk (45 minutes)
  • Short talk (25 minutes)
  • Lightning talk (5 minutes)

We encourage you to submit talks and workshops of all skill levels on any topic in the orbit of Nix. You don't need to be an expert to submit a talk either! You also don't need to use Nix at work or be a Nix contributor.

Here are some example topics just to get your creativity flowing:

  • Do you use Nix to cross-compile firmware for your toaster? Wow, what a nerd! But also, tell us how and why!
  • Did you deploy a fleet of NixOS machines at work? Awesome, show us how!
  • Were you able to convince your friends and loved ones to try Nix? What seemed to be most convincing and how are they liking it?
  • Did Nix expose you to a truly cursed corner of computing? Juicy, do tell!
