Welcome, fellow Rustaceans!
We are Rust Vienna, a group of local developers and enthusiasts who want to share and exchange knowledge, experience and ideas about the Rust programming language. We meet regularly to present our projects, experiences, ideas and more.
Anyone may submit talks, so if you'd like to share anything in regards to Rust, whether it be a project you're working on, a concept that you'd like to explain, an idea you want to present or a library you want to introduce people to, please let us know!
We always aim for in-person meetups at interesting locations or venues in Vienna. If you're a company or venue that would like to host us, don't hesitate to get in touch with us at contact@rust.wien.
Speaking at or attending at our meetups in Vienna is always 100% free.
NOTE: Dates are always subject to change! We usually hold talks on the last Thursday of every other month, but sometimes have to move the dates around by a day or two. Once an event has been announced on our Meetup.com page, the date is set in stone.
At every meetup, we have about two Rust-related talks, each about ~30 minutes long, with some time for questions and discussions afterwards. Please use this Call for Speakers to propose a topic you'd like to talk about. We shall then get in contact with you to discuss the exact date and time.
Note that you do not need to be an experienced Rust developer to hold a talk at Rust Vienna. Anyone of any experience level is warmly welcome! Even if you're e.g. just getting started with the language and want to share your experience.
The language used at every Rust Vienna meetup is English. If you are not comfortable speaking English and would instead like to hold your talk in German, let us know.
Here are some ideas for possible topics:
Have another idea? We're looking forward to hear about it!
We also accept lighting talks — a lightning talk is a short-form talk about 5-10 minutes long and usually moves rather quickly. If you think your topic or presentation style fits this type of talk more, please let us know!
Alternatively, you may also contact us via talks@rust.wien if you don't want to fill out the form.
Note regarding advertising something in your talk: We don't want Rust Vienna to become a cheap sales show. However, it is perfectly fine to mention where you work and perhaps promote yourself a tiny bit; but rather than advertising aggressively, try to convince potential employees, employers, customers, etc. with your skills. For example, things like offering discount codes, free subscriptions or a newsletter are not okay, and neither is making a product presentation (and then just mentioning that you made all this in Rust). If you have specific questions and don't know whether something is alright or not, don't hesitate to contact us via contact@rust.wien.
