Doing open source governance before it was cool

From a background in electronic and systems engineering (a C.Eng.), Simon worked on ISO open standards in the 80s, kickstarted Java adoption at IBM in the 90s and took on the OSPO at Sun Microsystems in the 00s, where he led the team that liberated Sun's software (Java, Solaris Unix and much more) just in time before the Oraclopalypse. He then led the transformation of the Open Source Initiative into a representative body, first as a director and then as President. He's also done a load of other things - see webmink.com/about for the full list. He's now consulting for anyone needing insights into managing the point where software freedom meets corporate demands. The company he started - Meshed Insights Ltd - has a diverse range of global clients in the public, civil society and commercial sectors.
