The SONiC Foundation would like to invite you to participate in the annual SONiC Hackathon! We welcome innovators to participate and showcase their ideas and implementations with SONiC.
The hackathon event will be virtual, and the winners will be announced at OCP Global Summit SONiC Workshop. Please review the following guidelines and submit your interest to participate.
Important Things to Know:
- Every accepted project needs a concrete deliverable: a repo, a patch or PR, a design doc, or a working demo. If your project builds on prior work, please let us know. Your final slide has to separate what already existed from what you built during the hackathon.
- Projects must be specific to SONiC. General networking or AI tooling without a direct SONiC integration won't be accepted. State what's new for SONiC in your abstract.
- Demo and presentation will be uploaded to a shared online location
- A team may include a maximum of five participants.
- No more than 3 teams from one participating organization

- AI + debugging & root causing test failures, analyzing test logs
- Developer experience improvements: builds, CI/CD
- System & software security
- Test reliability
- CLI/config/tracking improvements
- New feature enablement
- Other topics are welcome

SONiC Virtual Hackathon Timeline
- September 15: Team formation submission deadline (project abstract due at submission)
- September 21: Judges selected
- September 28 (9:00 AM PST - October 1(11:00 PM PT): Hackathon participation dates
- October 2 (11:00 PM - 1:00 AM AOE): Presentation upload period
- October 6 (8:00 AM - 12:00 PM PT): Live Presentations
Each team: 4-minute presentation + 2-minute Q&A
Break: 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Attendees & Judges: Present on Zoom Throughout - October 8 (8:00 PM PT): Judge Deliberation Deadline
- October 12: Winners Finalized
- October 14: Results announced at OCP Global Summit SONiC Workshop
Reminder: This is a vendor-neutral community event — no product or vendor sales pitches. Avoid sales or marketing pitches and discussing unlicensed or potentially closed-source technologies when preparing your proposal; these talks will not be accepted due to the fact that they take away from the integrity of our events, and are rarely well-received by conference attendees.
