SysConf is Sysdsgn’s flagship conference that brings together engineers, practitioners, and operators for technical talks. It grew out of the SysDsgn’s Twitter Spaces, where we hosted technical conversations about tools, technology, and system architecture.
We are passionate about increasing the technical level of engineers in Africa and beyond. And one of the ways we have set out to achieve this vision is through conversations and talks which provide a platform for people who deeply understand or have applied a technical concept to share about it. We have the following goals:
- To further the technical knowledge of engineers both in theory and practice
- To expand the limits and excellence of technology in the ecosystem through examples
- To encourage technical discussions to the nth depth (where n = minimum depth of expertise) which is usually where innovation happens

SysConf is a highly technical conference, targeted at a technical audience that wants to learn and grow. Sysconf 2026 is here and we are looking for talks that reflect this standard.
An ideal talk will walk us through how you’ve applied a technology to solve a problem, successfully or not; either on a personal project or within an organisation. For the researchers, we also welcome explainer talks that uncover the deeper workings of a technology.
Come tell us about the engineering decisions that were not obvious at first and required in-depth research and deep technical knowledge to make. We want to hear about the systems that failed in surprising ways, and how you debugged it. Tell us about how you solved reliability or performance problems. Which optimisations did you implement to help save compute? Did you create a new algorithm or apply math to solve a problem? Have you built tooling to wrangle AI tooling and framework to create value?
SysConf covers the full breadth of technical work across seven tracks: Software (products, open source, and everything in between), Research, Hardware, AI, Testing (including deterministic simulation, fuzz, and property-based testing), Systems Engineering (performance, databases, observability, distributed systems, networking, firmware, and security), SRE, and Technical Leadership. For inspiration, you can listen to some talks from previous SysConfs.
Session Format
All talks will be 30 minutes long: 25 min to present, 5 mins for Q&A.
Submission Tips
Please make the effort to fill in all the required details during the application, providing as much detail as possible to allow our reviewers to have all the information they need. In all parts of your submission, be clear about the goal of the talk and why you’re the best person to give it. Make sure the text says exactly what you mean.
If you have done the work, thought carefully about it, and can help others understand it better, whether you’re a first-time conference speaker or a seasoned presenter, we’d love to hear from you!
