Microsoft Fabric: How to Minimize Cost and Maximize Efficiency and Reliability
In this session, attendees will leave with a clear, practical framework for running Microsoft Fabric efficiently and cost-effectively. We’ll cover capacity management using the Capacity Metrics App, proven cost-saving strategies, and operational workflows that balance engineering convenience with business reliability and strong financial ROI. The discussion sits at the intersection of engineering and governance, making it ideal for engineers, platform owners, and technology adopters.
Spark in Microsoft Fabric, In Depth: Practical Patterns, Optimization, and AI
In this session, we’ll take a practical deep dive into Spark-based data engineering in Microsoft Fabric. We’ll walk through proven techniques and repeatable patterns for solving common data engineering challenges, covering advanced Spark SQL functions (including explode, concat_ws, and related transformation patterns), effective approaches to semi-structured data, and strategies for building reliable, maintainable pipelines.
We’ll also highlight AI-related capabilities available in Azure Spark, including built-in and integrated functions that support text processing, enrichment, classification, and feature engineering directly within Spark workloads, along with guidance on where these functions fit (and where they don’t) in real-world pipelines.
Audience: The presentation is technical and aimed at data engineers and analytics engineers using Spark in Fabric. The session is beginner-friendly and case-based, with roughly 50% focused on advanced techniques.
(Preferred dates: April–May 2026)
Unstoppable Fabric: Capacity Planning, Smart Alerting & Workload Tuning
Learn how to make Microsoft Fabric unstoppable by combining capacity planning, smart alerting, and workload tuning. We’ll use the Fabric Capacity Metrics app and API to read CU usage and throttling, plan and schedule ETL/Spark/refresh workloads, configure alerts (incl. Data Activator), and apply Spark/Warehouse best practices so Fabric stays fast, predictable, and cost-efficient.
Scalable Sentiment Analysis for Hospitals with OpenAI and Azure Fabric
My presentation will showcase patterns for building solutions on Azure Fabric. As a real-world example, we’ll explore a project we developed during a Microsoft Hackathon. The solution gathers data from the Google Maps API using Spark Notebooks to build the data layer. We’ll walk through how to integrate OpenAI into this pipeline and leverage various components within Azure Fabric to bring everything together.
The session will be a blend of architecture patterns and best practices in Data Engineering that you can apply to your own projects, all presented in a holistic view. We will talk about Fabric, Spark, API, AI, Healthcare, Medallion Structure, SQL, and further. Finally, we’ll also discuss the strengths and current limitations of the rapidly evolving Azure Fabric platform. You will have a lot of very practical insights
