Lessons in Leadership from Talking Dogs and Singing Cats: What Kid’s TV Taught Me About Coaching
As a leader and coach, inspiration can come from unexpected places—including children’s television. Yes, while you were rolling your eyes at yet another episode of Paw Patrol, I was taking notes. Shows designed for young audiences distill complex ideas into simple, engaging, and emotionally resonant lessons. By analyzing the themes of resilience, collaboration, and growth mindset found in these programs, we can uncover valuable insights applicable to leadership, team dynamics, and personal development. This talk explores how children's TV has helped me refine my leadership and coaching philosophy, using specific examples from shows like Gabby’s Dollhouse, Bluey, Paw Patrol, and Hey Duggee to highlight lessons in psychological safety, feedback, and adaptability.
Conclusion:
Great leadership lessons don’t always come from corporate seminars or business books. Sometimes, they come from animated animals who solve problems in 10-minute increments. By embracing the wisdom embedded in children’s programming, we can become more empathetic, adaptable, and effective leaders. This talk will leave attendees with a fresh perspective on leadership—along with a few catchy theme songs stuck in their heads!
Audience Takeaways:
Practical leadership and coaching strategies drawn from children’s TV.
Tools for fostering a growth mindset and psychological safety in teams.
A reminder that learning can come from the most unexpected (and ridiculous) sources.
There’s an Imposter at this Conference!
Agile leadership is all about adaptability, collaboration, and trusting the process—but what happens when the biggest blocker in your sprint is your own self-doubt? Ever felt like you’ve somehow tricked everyone into believing you know what you’re doing? Congratulations, you might just have Imposter Syndrome!
This session will take a no-nonsense (but slightly sarcastic) approach to understanding Imposter Syndrome, how it manifests in agile environments, and why so many high-achievers—yes, including you—struggle to believe in their own success. Expect a mix of research, case studies, and personal war stories, all designed to help you recognise when your brain is lying to you and how to fight back.
Session Overview:
We’ll start by defining what Imposter Syndrome actually is (spoiler: it’s not just “being humble”) and why it tends to thrive in leadership roles, high-performing teams, and agile workplaces. Through real-life examples and a self-assessment questionnaire, we’ll identify different “Imposter types” and how they show up in our daily work—whether that’s second-guessing decisions, overworking to “prove” yourself, or secretly waiting for HR to realize they made a terrible hiring mistake.
The second half of the session will focus on practical, no-BS strategies to break out of the Imposter cycle, including:
Reframing self-doubt (aka calling out your own nonsense)
Imposter diaries (yes, journaling, but for people who roll their eyes at journaling)
Anxiety timeboxing (because spiraling at 3 AM isn’t productive)
Building psychological safety in teams (so we can all stop pretending we know everything)
We’ll wrap up with an interactive appreciation exercise, because let’s be honest—most of us are terrible at accepting compliments, and that needs to change.
Why This Topic Matters:
Imposter Syndrome doesn’t just make individuals miserable—it slows down decision-making, stifles innovation, and creates unnecessary stress in agile teams. If we want to build a culture of trust, transparency, and psychological safety, we need to address the self-doubt that keeps talented people from stepping up with confidence.
So, if you’re tired of second-guessing yourself, over-preparing for meetings just to sound competent, or waiting for someone to expose you as a fraud—this session is for you. Let’s put Imposter Syndrome in the backlog where it belongs.
