Callahan has been a technical trainer since the mid-1990s. She became an MCT in 1999, and is a SharePoint MVP Alumni. She has published books about administering SharePoint Foundation and Windows SharePoint Services, coauthored books about Windows Server 2003, 2003 R2, 2008, Windows Vista, SharePoint Server 2013, and associated Microsoft Courseware. She's spoken at events far and wide, from user groups and SharePoint Saturdays, to Ignite and Windows Connections in the US, to European conferences like SEF Forum in Sweden. She has specialized in custom courses for businesses of all sizes for decades, filling in those gaps of instruction not covered by Microsoft's own official curriculum.
Right now, she's exploring bold new worlds in the Immersive Learning space. Callahan frequently advises companies on the best immersive platform for their needs. She gives tours in VR, writes onboarding and first touch instructions, as well as simply evangelizes and advocates for immersive collaboration, communication, and socialization. Allowing user autonomy and exploration has proven to increase confidence and ownership of new information with less distraction than traditional, passive lecture/screenshare remote learning models. It is a natural next step to remote meetings that *does not* require a VR headset to enjoy the experience (she herself doesn't use a headset).

Microsoft Teams Avatars, Immersive Spaces, and Mesh, oh my!
Everyone uses Teams, right? But did you ever try out the Avatar Builder or Immersive Spaces in Teams? Ever download Mesh? Maybe you gave them a glance but weren't sure of the point? Or didn't really have time to look?
Well, now's your chance to find out more.
Come see what this 3D immersive meetings thing is all about. From why and how to build and use Avatars, to taking a tour of Immersive Spaces built into Teams, to checking out Immersive Spaces' customizable big brother, the standalone Mesh app.
You don't need a 3D headset to come along in this immersive meetings adventure. Just attend the session, sit back, and enjoy. You might just discover you like it.
This is a high speed session covering three different products for the price of one. Intended for community consumption.
It will work for one hour sessions, works better for 90 minute sessions.
REQUIRES: reliable 30/30 mbps bandwidth, preferably ethernet to the presenter laptop, to avoid any performance lags, drops, or failures. This session demonstrates the immersive qualities of 3D sound and video-- a good presentation screen for the attendees to see is a positive, and it really requires a way to share the laptop spatial sound (left and right at minimum) through speakers in the live venue.
Microsoft Mesh. What it is and why to use it.
Wouldn't it be nice if online meetings were more like this event?
You could virtually walk into a room with the Speaker standing in front of a screenshare. You could hear and see the others around you, pick your seat, chat with the person beside you, as the speaker's amplified voice washes over you. You can even move to a back corner of the space to continue talking without distracting anyone, and moving back to your seat when you're done.
That's the point of immersive spaces and Mesh.
Mesh is the standalone app for immersive meetings. Teams has a sample of it called Immersive spaces, but Mesh is more powerful. More customizable. With tools out of the box for adding media assets and share screens, as well as a hosting tool for managing attendees. Mesh works fine on the PC if you'd like, or you can use a Meta headset if you have one. You can even upload custom environments into Mesh. Create a digital twin of the office, a serene forest retreat, or a futuristic fantasy- and then hold your meetings there.
If this piques your curiosity, then attend this session. Take a quick look at Mesh (as much as we can do in 50 minutes) and see what it's about. You might be surprised how useful Mesh can be to elevate a standard remote meeting into something more fun, more immediate, and more of an adventure for the attendees.
