DeAnna Pellecchia is a professional dancer, choreographer, educator, and Founder and Artistic Director of Boston-based KAIROS Dance Theater. For more than 25 years, she has built a career in professional dance—an industry defined by rejection, financial uncertainty, physical risk, public exposure, criticism, and constant change. Along the way, she founded KAIROS Dance Theater from the ground up, building an organization, an ensemble, an audience, and a body of work without a roadmap or any guarantee that the next risk would pay off.

A faculty member at Boston University and New England Conservatory, Pellecchia has performed and taught internationally, developing an interdisciplinary practice rooted in collaboration, somatic awareness, and human connection.

For more than two decades, she has also danced with horses, exploring the extraordinary relationship between fear, trust, communication, and the limits of control. Working with a thousand-pound animal demands presence, clarity, adaptability, and the willingness to respond to what is actually happening rather than what we expect or intend.

Today, Pellecchia brings these experiences to audiences through three presentations: Dancing With Fear: The Courage to Move Before You're Ready, Collaboration in Motion, and Deep Listening & Leadership. Drawing on a lifetime of creative risk-taking, organizational leadership, and embodied practice, she offers a distinctive perspective on navigating uncertainty, strengthening communication, building trust, and finding the courage to act before the outcome is known.

Deep Listening & Leadership

What changes when leaders learn to listen beyond words?

In a world defined by constant communication, competing demands, and relentless distractions, the ability to listen deeply has become one of the most essential—and frequently overlooked—leadership skills.

Listening is more than hearing what someone says. It requires attention, awareness, curiosity, and the willingness to recognize what is happening beneath the surface of an interaction. The most effective leaders recognize that communication is shaped not only by words, but also by presence, physical behavior, emotional responses, and the capacity to remain receptive when perspectives differ.

DeAnna Pellecchia brings more than 25 years of experience as a professional dancer, choreographer, educator, and Founder and Artistic Director of KAIROS Dance Theater. Her work draws on somatic practices, Deep Listening®, and decades of interdisciplinary collaboration to explore how individuals communicate, connect, and respond to one another.

In Deep Listening & Leadership, Pellecchia introduces an embodied approach to communication that challenges participants to reconsider how they direct attention, interpret information, navigate difficult conversations, and build meaningful relationships.

Through storytelling, guided reflection, and accessible experiential exercises, participants explore the relationship between listening, trust, self-awareness, and effective leadership. They examine how habitual reactions, assumptions, and distractions can interfere with communication—and how intentional listening creates opportunities for greater clarity, collaboration, and understanding.

Participants leave with practical strategies for strengthening their listening skills, recognizing nonverbal communication, navigating interpersonal challenges, and cultivating more attentive, responsive, and connected teams.

Dancing With Fear: The Courage to Move Before You're Ready

What can a thousand-pound animal teach us about fear, leadership, and the limits of control?

Leadership, change, risk, and opportunity often require us to act before we know how things will turn out. Yet fear can lead us to hesitate, overcontrol, disconnect, or wait for certainty that may never come.

DeAnna Pellecchia has spent more than 25 years navigating uncertainty as a professional dancer, choreographer, educator, and founder of KAIROS Dance Theater. She has built a career and an organization in a field defined by risk, rejection, collaboration, and constant change—without a roadmap or any guarantee of success.

For more than two decades, she has also danced with horses, where the demands of trust, communication, and commitment become immediate and physical.

A thousand-pound animal responds to what is actually happening, not what we intended to communicate. Hesitation, tension, inconsistency, and attempts to control an outcome become visible in real time.

Drawing on these extraordinary experiences, Dancing With Fear: The Courage to Move Before You're Ready explores how we respond when certainty disappears, how fear shapes our decisions and relationships, and why effective leadership requires awareness, adaptability, and the willingness to act before we feel ready.

Through compelling storytelling, embodied insights, and practical reflection, participants examine how to recognize fear-driven behaviors, communicate more intentionally, build trust, and move forward with courage—even when the outcome remains unknown.

Collaboration in Motion

What can the creative process teach us about working together when no one person has all the answers?

Collaboration is often celebrated as an organizational value, yet genuine collaboration requires far more than bringing people together. It demands trust, active listening, adaptability, shared responsibility, and the willingness to relinquish individual control in service of something greater.

For more than 25 years, DeAnna Pellecchia has worked at the intersection of movement, creativity, and human connection. As a professional choreographer, educator, and Founder and Artistic Director of KAIROS Dance Theater, she has built and led collaborative teams of artists whose work depends on navigating uncertainty, negotiating differences, responding in real time, and making collective decisions.

In Collaboration in Motion, Pellecchia draws on the creative processes of professional dance and interdisciplinary performance to reveal what happens when individuals move beyond simply contributing their own expertise and begin responding to the needs, ideas, and perspectives of others.

Through compelling stories, movement-based observations, and experiential exercises, participants explore how communication extends beyond words, how trust develops through shared action, and how creativity emerges when individuals are willing to listen, adapt, and take risks together.

This presentation challenges conventional approaches to teamwork by examining collaboration as a dynamic, evolving practice rather than a fixed set of roles or responsibilities.

Participants leave with practical strategies for strengthening communication, navigating competing perspectives, building trust, and cultivating more responsive, resilient, and innovative teams.
