Git for data professionals
Merge conflict? Pull request? Commit? Push? Pull? What? Are all these terms acrabadabra to you (or would you just like a refresher), come to this training on git, aimed at dataprofessionals. We'll talk about why version control through git is a good idea, also for data projects, what the basic commands are, what different ways you can go about organizing your "git flow" (and what this is exactly, will also be explained). I'll show you this hands on, with azure devops repositories, so you'll be well equipped to start using git at work and in pricate projects.
Gender, beyond 0/1
Between 0.5% a 5% of people does not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. Chances are you work with someone, or will work with someone in the future, who is not cisgender, and is transgender and/or nonbinary.
Do these sentences already confuse you and use terms you do not know? Want to learn what all the letters in the LGBTQIA* acronym stand for? And how to create a welcome environment at your workplace for queer folk of all shapes and sizes? Come to this talk! Feel free to ask the questions you were always afraid to ask (as long as they're asked with an open mind and with respect).
How to get a running start at a new job, without getting lost.
"Welcome to your first day at company WeHaveData! Here are your laptop and your account, and you're good to go, right? Let me know if you have any questions; I'll be in an office miles away."
Many of us have been in situations like this. What are the questions you should definitely ask? What things can you do to figure stuff out yourself? How can you get up to speed as efficient and with as little frustration as possible, for both you and your new colleagues/managers/project leads? In this talk I'll guide you through some strategies and tips&tricks on how to get an overview of the data-landscape of a new place, for ensuring a confident start. At the end of the talk, you'll have some checklists with topics to broach and resources to keep on hand.
Time and stress management for data people
Too much work for too little time. And the world is on fire. And your ETL-job just failed. And your manager wants you to start this newproject yesterday Doesn't that just describe all our days? In this workshop I'll share a variety of techniques, strategies and tips and tricks to get better equipped with dealing all our lives throw at us. This will be an interactive workshop, to help you try new things that will hopefully help you (as they helped me). I'll go into golden oldies like Stephen Covey and David Allen (Getting Things Done), and newer ones on the scene like pomodoro's, and we might even do some meditating. A note beforehand: we will not focus on what exact apps you can use, but on the systems that you can put in place to do more with less stress.
SQL for absolute beginners
SELECT TOP 1 * FROM sessions WHERE
Are you completely new to work within data? Or do you work with data professionals, and would you like to know a bit more what coding they seem to do all day? Do you work mostly at the visualisation level and use drag and drop UI tools, and would you like to know more coding? This is the workshop for you!
You'll learn the very basics of SQL. How to select rows from tables, with conditions, and combine this with data from other table, and the other magical things the data engineers and bi specialists do on a daily basis.
This is a very hands-on workshop, with lots of exercises, so a laptop (preferably with admin access, so you can download and install all you like) is required.
