Hi, I’m Jesimiel Williams. I’m an innovative Creative with experience in Design, UX and Content Development and Marketing. In 7 years, and through possibly hundreds of visuals, interfaces and written content, I’ve learned to craft interactions toward consumer-centric values, and as such have developed an understanding of consumer trends and how to optimize experiences and stories to drive adoption and growth for tech products. I’ve worked and consulted for brands in AI, Telecoms, Mobility, Edtech and many other spheres in Africa, Europe and the US including Lara.ng, Stutern, Chess in Slums Africa and many others, whilst also building a product for accessible Mental Health for Africa called Uncloudy.

Africa is an expansive space with opportunity for new technology, but how do we build open source tools that can be easily adopted for building impactful products? Bypen source ecosystems that reflect our realities?
This session explores what it means to design and develop with context for Africa, and for the stories that Africans have to tell. Not just in terms of UI design, but in documentation, community culture, onboarding flows, and beyond. We’ll explore how storytelling, accessibility, and localized UX can drive the next wave of open source adoption on the continent.

When we talk about building products, there’s a lot of focus on the code and frameworks but less time around building technical products around contextual stories that drive adoption in Africa. In my session, we’ll explore how storytelling with context can transform the way we build and ship products, for the goal of being adopted with ease in Africa and the Global south. When we blend key narratives with design and development, we can bridge the gap between what we build and what people adopt.
