As the chief operating officer for Gates Institute, Laura Borgelt, PharmD, MBA, works closely with senior leadership to positively transform patient lives and advance science by facilitating the discovery, development, and delivery of cell and gene therapies.

Dr. Borgelt, a professor at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus in clinical pharmacy and family medicine, has worked for more than 20 years as an educator, clinician, scholar, and administrator. In her tenure at the campus, she has also served as Associate Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives and associate dean of administration and operations at the CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

She has held critical roles in developing and implementing strategic planning efforts for the pharmacy school, the campus, the university, state and national governments, and professional organizations. In addition to her strategic expertise, she is a prolific researcher and board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist. Dr. Borgelt is regularly called upon in academic circles and beyond for her expertise in areas spanning women’s health, patient safety, strategy, and leadership.

Dr. Borgelt has taught nearly 4,000 students, and over 100,000 healthcare professionals from pharmacy, medicine, nursing, dental medicine, and physical therapy. Dr. Borgelt has been recognized for excellence with numerous awards for teaching and mentorship, the University of Colorado Elizabeth D. Gee Memorial Lectureship Award, and selection into the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine program.
