Melody Hawkins is an award-winning educator committed to promoting equity and academic achievement in urban education, particularly within under-resourced communities. Starting as an eighth-grade science teacher, Melody blended culturally relevant science education with social-emotional learning, fostering profound student empowerment and bolstering student achievement. As a high school administrator, she prioritized equitable and inclusive learning experiences that celebrate diverse student backgrounds. Currently serving as a District Science Facilitator, Melody is focused on elevating science instruction across 12 urban schools in her district. With academic roots in Microbiology from the University of Tennessee, Melody holds a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master's in Educational Leadership, and currently pursuing a doctorate at National University. Melody is the recipient of several awards and honors with the most notable being the 2021 National University Teacher of the Year and a joint resolution from the Tennesse General Assembly in 2022 for her work as an inspirational teacher, as well as receiving the Key to the City awarded by the Jackson, TN mayor in March 2023. Melody also contributes to science curriculum and educational progress nationwide, while residing in Tennessee with her husband and two daughters.
