Reiss is a Senior Business Intelligence Developer at Purple Frog and is co-organiser of the Birmingham Data Platform Meetup. He has been working with Reporting and Business Intelligence for over a decade, but is fairly new to the Speaker scene. Reiss has presented sessions at Data in Devon and also at the Birmingham Data Platform Meetup. He is currently specialising in Azure Synapse Analytics and has been working with this since it's Public Preview.
Outside of work and technology Reiss is a father of two, a frequent Musical Theatre Performer, a LARP Organiser and a keen gamer.

Getting Started with Azure Synapse Analytics
Azure Synapse Analytics is one of the newest additions to the Azure Platform. But what is it exactly and how do we use it?
This session will give you the answers to these questions and also a few small tips that can make a huge difference to your performance.
We'll cover:
- Creating the Azure Synapse Analytics Environment
- Configuring your SQL Pool
- Additional storage options for your data
- Data Distribution over your SQL Pool (Distribution types).
- Scaling your SQL Pool for differing workloads
- Assigning Workload Management to increase performance/concurrency
- And more!
By the end of the session you'll have seen how to get started with Azure Synapse Analytics and a few things to avoid when you do!
