Shafiq Ur Rahman is a Principal Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft. He has 20+ years' experience in software design and development. Over his career he has built world class solutions across the stack, from the client to the cloud. He says that his greatest achievement was a "circle of life" moment, when his daughter was unblocked on her homework using software he had written 15 years ago.

He has built services and products for Microsoft Azure. Most recently working on Azure Data Studio and driving a broad effort to modernize DevOps with Jupyter Notebooks. He has also built a very successful service inside Microsoft for Data Exploration and orchestration, with a goal to "make data easy" for everyone.

In the past, Shafiq has spent many years pushing the boundaries of audio and video technologies for the Windows operating system, with over 15 patents filed in the multimedia space. His work has impacted various products on Windows, Xbox and phone. If you have ever listened to an audio CD on Windows, it probably goes through his code. He was one of the original members of the Windows Media Foundation team, which is the de-facto API for multimedia on Windows.
