Dr. Thompson is an Occupational Medicine Specialist Physician. He completed his Medical Residency training and Master of Public Health (MPH) degree at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Canadian Residency and Fellowship at University of Toronto. Dr. Thompson is an Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Toronto. He served as Program Director of the Occupational Medicine Residency Training Program at University of Toronto from 2011 to 2021. His clinical practice is at St. Michael’s Hospital / Unity Health where he is a staff physician in the Division of Occupational Medicine, Department Medicine.

Dr. Thompson has served as the Chief Medical Officer of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) since 2019. He has past experience working as an Occupational Medicine Physician in industry and as a Roster Physician for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. He is an Assessor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. He is Vice Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Specialty Committee for Occupational Medicine and sits on the RCPSC Examination Committee.
