Abdel Aziz Oumar El-bashi is the Chief Operations Officer at Safe Haven Foundation, where he leads programs and partnerships focused on digital safety, mental wellbeing, and inclusive civic participation. Trained in law and with over six years of experience in digital communications and strategic engagement, his work sits at the intersection of digital rights, online harm, and democratic participation.

He is a member of the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Alliance, contributing to initiatives that strengthen critical thinking, counter disinformation, and promote responsible digital citizenship. His work emphasizes that digital inclusion must extend beyond access to ensure safe, dignified, and wellbeing-centered digital spaces, particularly for women, youth, and communities affected by technology-facilitated abuse.

In 2025, Abdel Aziz served as an observer during Cameroon’s presidential and regional elections, gaining first-hand insight into how digital platforms shape civic discourse, voter confidence, and participation. This experience informs his advocacy on the impact of online harassment, disinformation, and toxic digital environments on civic engagement and mental health.

Beyond his professional role, he brings strong youth leadership and governance experience. He previously served as Chapter Executive Vice President of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Yaounde Universities and was recognized as Best Member for the first half of 2020 in JCI Cameroon. He is a Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award holder of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, reflecting sustained commitment to leadership, service, and personal development. He is also a member of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and an Alumnus of the Aspire Institute Training Program, where he further strengthened his leadership, strategy, and impact-driven practice.

Through his work, Abdel Aziz champions inclusive digital civic spaces where individuals can participate freely and safely, without fear of harm or exclusion. He is particularly committed to advancing approaches that integrate digital literacy, psychosocial support, and survivor-centered strategies into civic engagement and democratic processes.
