Allstar in Action: Automating Security Policies for GitHub Organizations

Managing security across dozens or hundreds of repositories is nearly impossible without automation. In this practical session, I'll demonstrate how OpenSSF Allstar transforms manual security enforcement into automated guardrails.
What you'll see demonstrated live:
1. Setting up Allstar to monitor an entire GitHub organization
2. Creating custom security policies that reflect your specific requirements
3. Detecting and mitigating common security misconfigurations automatically
4. Implementing branch protection requirements across multiple repositories
5. Preventing dangerous workflow patterns before they create vulnerabilities

Talk to AI: Azure Speech Meets OpenAI

Imagine a world where you can speak to your computer and it understands, responds, and learns - just like a human. Siri, Google Assistant is so far on the goal of achieving the same, but still it is far from common people's hand.

Ever wondered that how these technologies work together. In this groundbreaking session, we'll dive into the exciting realm of voice-activated AI using Azure Speech and OpenAI.

Are you tired of typing commands? Want to explore the cutting edge of AI technology? You'll see live demonstrations of how to build your own voice-activated AI assistant using Azure's advanced speech recognition capabilities combined with OpenAI's powerful language models.

Key Takeaways:
1. Understand the basics of Azure Speech Services and OpenAI integration
2. Gain insights into natural language processing and generation
3. Get hands-on experience with code samples and practical demonstrations

Securing AI Pipelines: Real-World Attacks on Kubernetes-Based AI Infrastructure

When an ML engineer deploys a Stable Diffusion model to Kubernetes, they unwittingly create an attack surface unlike anything traditional security teams have encountered. I discovered this firsthand after our "perfectly secured" AI cluster was compromised.
In this no-holds-barred session, I'll demonstrate live exploits against common AI deployment patterns, showing how attackers pivot from an innocent model serving endpoint to exfiltrating proprietary models worth millions and compromising underlying infrastructure. For each vulnerability exposed, I'll share concrete defensive measures developed in the trenches of enterprise AI deployments, including custom admission controllers, GPU isolation patterns, and monitoring strategies specifically crafted for AI workloads.

Maintainer Burnout: What Actually Works

"Just set boundaries" is the standard advice for avoiding open source burnout. It's also completely ineffective, as I discovered after interviewing 120+ maintainers about their experiences with burnout.
Through compelling case studies and research data, you'll discover:
1. The three behavioral patterns that predicted maintainer burnout with 83% accuracy in our study
2. Why traditional "self-care" advice fundamentally misunderstands the psychology of maintainers
3. The specific governance structures that dramatically reduced burnout in projects that implemented them
This talk integrates quantitative research with deeply personal stories from maintainers who either recovered from or succumbed to burnout. You'll leave with practical, evidence-based approaches for individuals, projects, and organizations to create environments where maintainers can thrive long-term.

Breaking RAG Systems: Exploiting Vulnerabilities & Hardening Your GenAI Applications

Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems are quickly becoming the backbone of enterprise GenAI applications, but they introduce unique security risks that most teams overlook. In this hands-on session, I'll demonstrate real vulnerabilities I've discovered in production RAG systems and show you exactly how to fix them. We'll start by breaking things - I'll perform live attacks including:
1. Hallucination injection that makes models confidently return false information
2. Prompt manipulation that bypasses business logic restrictions
3. Vector database poisoning that compromises RAG results
Then, we'll fix each vulnerability step-by-step:
1. Securing your vector database against poisoning attacks
2. Building multi-stage guardrails that catch manipulated inputs
3. Implementing robust retrieval validation techniques
You'll leave with practical code patterns and configurations you can immediately apply to your own RAG applications.

Building a Security-First Open Source Project: Tools and Best Practices

In this session, I will demonstrate how to build security into the DNA of your open source project from day one, using industry-tested tools and automation.
You'll learn how to implement a comprehensive security strategy leveraging popular open source security tools including GitHub's CodeQL for advanced vulnerability detection, OpenSSF Scorecard for automated security best practices assessment, and key supply chain security frameworks.
Through live demonstrations, we'll walk through setting up automated security scanning pipelines that catch vulnerabilities early and maintain high security standards without burdening developers.

Hacking OpenSearch: Breaking In & Locking It Down

OpenSearch is a powerful search and analytics engine. But many organizations unknowingly expose their OpenSearch clusters, leaving them vulnerable to data leaks, privilege escalation, and even full system compromise. In this session, we’ll look into real-world OpenSearch security flaws, exploit them live, and secure them.
This talk is hands-on - we’ll spin up two OpenSearch environments: one intentionally vulnerable, the other properly secured. You’ll see exactly how attackers break in, followed by a step-by-step hardening process.
The key takeaways from this session will be:
1. Live demonstrations of common attack techniques (unauthenticated access, query injection, privilege escalation, and container compromise)
2. Best practices for securing OpenSearch, including TLS, RBAC, and security configurations
