Al attended the Boston Conservatory of Music and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Connecticut. At 19 years old, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard Band and embarked on a career as a percussionist. Since then, in addition to performing, he's competed at hundreds of different events and continues to amass a wide variety of athletic achievements, most notably a 2:39:37 Boston Marathon personal best, and finishing 9 Ironman Triathlons to date, including qualifying three different times for the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. He began coaching runners and triathletes part-time in 1999. In an effort to continue to share what he learned through a lifetime of health and wellness study and endurance sports training, he co-founded Pursuit Athletic Performance in 2010, where he provides movement therapy, gait analysis, coaching, and online exercise programs suitable for any person, regardless of age or experience. He has been certified as a Sports Therapist, Fascial Stretch Therapist, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist, USA Triathlon Coach, USA Weightlifting Coach, Barefoot Training Specialist, Functional Movement Screen Provider, and in clinical gait analysis. Throughout his adult life, his primary goal has been to become truly healthy and age well, so he could extend not only his lifespan but more importantly, his healthspan. His ultimate goal is to be able to do what he enjoys with those who matter the most, right up until his last day.
