Sleep Better at Night: Dapr's Approach to Secure Cloud Native Development

Developers have a hard enough time creating scalable, resilient, cloud-native applications - making them secure adds a whole other level of complexity. Dapr (dapr.io) was designed from the start to solve developer challenges of building secure, distributed applications. This session outlines key security scenarios developers have to contend with such as enabling secure communication methods, limiting services and their dependencies' attack blast radius, managing secrets to access resources and dealing with application identities. Complete with multiple live demos, attendees will leave with an understanding of how Dapr makes building secure distributed applications a breeze so that developers can focus on business logic and sleep better at night.

Simplified Inner and Outer cloud native developer loops

Despite the quality of modern cloud-native tools, the user experience for inner and outer developer loops are still radically different, which introduces friction and hampers developer productivity.

Development setups are app-centric, while production environments deal with deployments and tools required for operations teams to keep applications running. This session explores tools to simplify both side and improve developer productivity through a platform engineering and polyglot approach using a toolchain that:
Gives developers a standard set of app-level APIs to solve common distributed app challenges, using Dapr.
Equips developers and product teams with consistent, polyglot feature flags through OpenFeature.
Facilitates easy local development, outside of a Kubernetes cluster, with Testcontainers.

Attendees will walk away with a working demo showcasing a straightforward, lightweight and effective inner and outer dev loop, ensuring the seamless promotion of apps from dev to prod.

Dapr Workflows: The Key to Simplifying Business Process Orchestration

The life of an application developer is becoming more challenging by the day with rising expectations to develop transactional apps that require resiliency, consistency & failure compensation on long-running operations.

Enter Dapr. Dapr (Distributed Application Runtime) provides APIs that simplify microservice development and allow Dapr's sidecar to handle complex challenges devs would otherwise have to write themselves.

Dapr provides a Workflow API that enables a close mapping of business requirements to code with the ability to schedule, automate & orchestrate real-life business processes. The Workflow API provides a simple programming model for managing state and includes features for scheduling, sequential & parallel execution and responding to external event triggers. This presentation will provide a demo-heavy deep dive, highlighting Dapr Workflow, and how they make developer lives easier for building business-critical applications.
