Tracking the Perpetrator: A Quick Look at Pod Evictions

In high-traffic or large-scale Kubernetes clusters, unwanted pod disruptions are inevitable—and while stateless workloads shrug them off, stateful services can suffer serious problems. In this lightning talk, I’ll walk you through every Kubernetes eviction type—both voluntary (e.g. draining, cordoning) and involuntary (e.g. resource pressure, OOMKill)—explain the triggers behind each, and share quick mitigation tips to keep your stateful workloads alive and away from unwanted disruptions. By the end, you’ll have a concise mental map of evictions and know exactly where to look when your pods start disappearing.

Journey to Operator Pattern: Designing Your First Kubernetes Operator

While Kubernetes provides a rich set of features out-of-the-box, it also empowers teams to extend its functionality via Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs). In this talk, you’ll learn the core architectural patterns and best practices for anyone embarking on their Operator journey—from CRD schema design and lifecycle reconciliation loops to testing strategies and upgrade paths. We’ll walk through real-world examples, highlight anti-patterns that lead to brittle code, and show you how to leverage CEL validation rules to enforce API correctness at create-time. By the end, you’ll have a clear blueprint for kicking off your first Kubernetes Operator project with confidence.
