Modemsploitation: An overview of security in cellular networks and modems.

As 5G being deployed in the wild with technologies like NFV (Network Function Virtualization), SDN (Software Defined Networking) and network slicing, very less attention is being paid to the security of the modems which make it possible for the devices to connect to these newer cellular technologies. In this presentation I will be talking about the various vulnerabilities and threats cellular modems possess from a hardware as well as firmware security perspective. I will also be talking about the research of security in basebands over past few years and how does this impact the IoT as well as automotive industry when it comes to connected cars and smart devices. In the end I will be discussing mitigation techniques and what future threats these devices will hold.
