Generative AI in the Reel World

Enter the Reel World and dive into a real-world case study for generative AI built by Dimensional Innovations: the immersive movie poster experience created for Atlas 9 in Kansas City. We’ll discuss how we gathered people’s photos for use in the experience, the art of crafting a good prompt, and the steps we took to create a consistent experience that was still unique to each guest, while also making sure they always had the right humber of fingers. We’ll also discuss problems we encountered such as respecting gender presentation, AI’s expectations of body types, and the weird case of it wanting the bald to have hair.

Managing for Failure

Oh no! Your team is doing a fabulous job. You never have to have difficult conversations, everyone is getting their work done to a high standard and on time. The higher ups are super happy with you. No one on your team has failed in longer than you can remember! How could you let this happen and what can you do to fix it?

Failure is an important part of growing your team - both the individuals on it and the cohesiveness of the whole. Without it creative problem solving can stagnate, learning slows to a crawl, and the work you get done is less than it could have been.

We’ll dive in to strategies for helping your team (including you!) feel comfortable with failure, as well as strategies for keeping YOUR boss happy when it happens. We’ll also explore low-stakes ways to introduce failure into your team, so you’re not taking down prod to prove a point.

Blast Off with TouchDesigner

This session is for those who are already a little bit familiar with programming in TouchDesigner but would like to see an example of a project that takes it to the next level.

Let's dive into the Rocket Lab – a TouchDesigner project I built for the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas. We'll look at some things that TouchDesigner does really well, like particle generation and generative graphics, as well as some things it's not so great at, like layouts (and how to do them better).

We'll also look at how to connect analog inputs and outputs into your TouchDesigner apps via a custom node OSC service so you can control your apps with buttons, and have them control the space you're in by changing things like lights.

Typescript for People Who Hate Typescript

So your boss says you have to learn Typescript, but you feel like it adds training wheels to your Javascript that you don't need. Or you've tried to learn it on your own a few times but can't get past how unnecessary it seems. Allow me to teach you the basics while mercilessly mocking it and not trying to convince you it's better than what you were already doing.

Competence is Overrated

Or, How to Succeed at Your Job When You Don’t Know What You’re Doing. It can be hard to stay positive and motivated at work when you don’t know what you’re doing. Let me, a software developer with a Studio Art degree, teach you my secrets on how to succeed at your job even when you lack the skills and experience in that “Required” list on the job description.
