A secure logon process in APEX: social sign-in or two factor authentication

Username and password are generally no longer accepted as sufficient for authentication. So for our APEX applications we need to do a little extra. APEX already provides us with the possibility to use social sign-in, with Google and Facebook as out-of-the-box solutions. In this session we will demonstrate some other possibilities, like Jira or LinkedIn. If we still need to use a username/password scheme, we could add two factor authentication, using an authenticator app on a mobile device. We will demonstrate how to incorporate this in our APEX application.

Securing ORDS REST services with JSON Web Tokens (JWT)

ORDS REST services that return specific user related data need more authentication than just a client_id and client_secret. It must be ensured that a user only has access to his own data, and not the data of any other user. So in the REST service call we must determine the identity of the calling user, in a secure way. A good means to do this is by making use of JSON Web Tokens (JWT). In this session we will explain how JSON Web Tokens are put together, and how we can take advantage of the JWT features in the latest versions of ORDS. Also the use of JWT in APEX is discussed.

THE (APE)X FILES – The truth is out there – in the builder

In your daily work you might come across APEX applications that show really strange behavior. You could blame this on supernatural phenomena or the work of aliens. A better idea is trying to find a logical explanation.
In this interactive session I will present the audience with a number of striking real world examples. I will take them on a quest through the APEX Builder, because we know: the truth is in there. Together we will try to find the settings or components that cause the strange behavior. We will explore settings you might not even know existed. Furthermore we will learn that Dynamic Actions can be a source of confusion, and that APEX API’s sometimes give unexpected results.
