When Two Become One: Understanding SQL in Fabric Synapse Data Warehousing

It all started with Parallel Data Warehouse, then came Azure SQL Data Warehouse…then Dedicated SQL Pools in Synapse! That was joined by Serverless SQL Pools in Synapse too. However there were now 2 SQL engines to use with differing scenarios and syntax…which to choose was often the question.

Now in Microsoft Fabric we have a single SQL engine for all our workloads, no more having to pick an engine for data warehousing or lakehouse architectures, hooray!

In this session we’ll be looking at the history of Microsoft data warehousing platforms and how we’ve ended up with the Fabric SQL engine. We’ll dive into what the lakehouse SQL endpoints are, what Warehouses in Fabric are, and how we can develop for these services.

Attendees will leave the session understanding how to develop Data Warehouse solutions in Microsoft Fabric.

The Battle of the Lakehouse: Delta lake, Iceberg, and Hudi.

The Data Lakehouse is hotting up as the go-to cloud Data Warehouse and Analytics methodology. Combining the scale and flexibility of the data lake with the schema enforcement and transactional consistency of data warehouse database systems, the lakehouse pattern brings a huge advantage for organisations with both complex and large amounts of data. But what underpins lakehouse technology?...

In this session we'll be diving into 3 of the data storage formats that have emerged in recent years and understand how they work.

1. Delta Lake
2. Apache Iceberg
3. Apache Hudi

We'll discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each format and look at technology platforms and vendors that support these formats.
After this session you will have the power of knowledge to deal with the different formats in use with the Data Lakehouse and make an informed decision about the format(s) to use in a data solution.

Azure Synapse Analytics & Microsoft Fabric: The Showdown

With the release of Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft have consolidated Power BI, the world of Spark and Lakehouses, Data Warehousing, and large scale real-time streaming into a single platform.

What now for Azure Synapse Analytics? Well, in this session we’ll be looking at both services and comparing/contrasting their use cases. We’ll also be looking at how these services can work together.

Synapse Data Warehousing in Fabric: It's all just SQL...Or is it?

Fabric is Microsoft's new platform on the block, covering the world of lakehouses, warehouses, real-time streaming, data engineering, and Power BI data modelling and reporting.

In this session we'll be looking at the Microsoft Fabric Warehouse service and how it differs from the SQL services we all know and love from Microsoft. We'll look at how and why it's different, and dive into the differences we need to be aware of when developing data solutions.

It's all just SQL...or is it?

Microsoft Fabric Warehouses for the Database Administrator

No matter what data role you have, it’s important to handle data you use with care. If you’re a DBA (Database Administrator) who has been tasked with looking at how to “administrate” Fabric Warehouses, a cloud-based SQL service tailored towards data warehousing, what do you need to be aware of when working with this Software-as-a-Service product? Perhaps you’ve been asked to “look after this Fabric thing” or maybe you’ve overheard people talking about Fabric and thought “what’s my role in all of this?”

Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft's flagship Software-as-a-Service Analytics service combining Power BI, Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Realtime Analytics, and Machine Learning.
Underpinning Fabric is a variety of workloads, engines, and languages to support in building a robust Analytics solution.

In this session we'll be taking a look at the
Fabric Warehouse service which is the SQL data warehousing service. However we'll be looking at this service from the perspective of the Database Administrator (DBA) role.

In this session attendees will understand the various aspects of Fabric Warehouses that are relevant in the scope of a DBA role.

The Reality of Fabric Warehouses and Deploying Models using Dbt

Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft's flagship Software-as-a-Service Analytics service combining Power BI, Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Realtime Analytics, and Machine Learning. Underpinning Fabric is a variety of workloads, engines, and languages to support in building a robust Analytics solution.

Dbt (data build tools) is a data transformation tool that enables data analysts and engineers to transform data in a cloud analytics warehouse. Is is feasible to build a solution on Fabric Warehouses using Dbt? Why would we want to if so? In this session we'll be diving into the integration of Fabric Warehouses and Dbt including Dbt Core and Dbt Cloud.

In this session attendees will understand the use cases of Dbt with Fabric Warehouses and understand the relevant workloads, and crucially the limitations and caveats.

Up and Running: How to make your Microsoft Fabric Proof of Concept a Success

Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft's flagship Software-as-a-Service Analytics service combining Power BI, Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Realtime Analytics, and Machine Learning. Underpinning Fabric is a variety of workloads, engines, and languages to support in building a robust Analytics solution.

In this "broad brush" session we'll look at how you and your organisation can provision a variety of Fabric workloads and how to conduct an effective proof-of-concept to ensure it succeeds in showing value. We'll be walking through a Proof-of-Concept guide to help us on our journey as we evaluate setting-up new Fabric workloads including timeframes for our proof-of-concept.

After this session you should feel more comfortable engaging with Microsoft Fabric and ensuring your proof-of-concept succeeds.

The Reality of Fabric Link for Dataverse: What You Need To Know

Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft's flagship Software-as-a-Service Analytics service combining Power BI, Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Realtime Analytics, and Machine Learning.

In this session we'll be diving into the Fabric Link for Dataverse functionality which lowers the technical barriers when allowing data in Dataverse (including Dynamics) to be analysed within Microsoft Fabric.

We'll be looking at the benefits but also what you need to look out for.

Harnessing the Power of Task Flows for Optimized Data Processing

In today's fast-paced, data-driven world, the ability to design, manage, and streamline complex data processing workflows is more important than ever. Join us for a comprehensive session dedicated to unveiling the transformative power of Fabric Task Flows. This session will equip you with how to build Task Flows, real-world use cases, and best practices to enhance your data processing workloads.

We will begin with an introduction to Task Flows, providing a solid understanding of their importance in understanding & optimizing data workflows. Next, we will explore the distinct differences between Task Flows and Lineage, including a brief introduction to Fabric and its significance in this context. Attendees will then discover predesigned Task Flow templates that minimize setup time and maximize efficiency, allowing for quick and effective implementation.

A live demonstration will showcase how to incorporate Task Flows into your Fabric data processes, highlighting how tasks are managed and how different roles can interact with and view items efficiently. This will be complemented by best practices for integrating Task Flows into overall data processes, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
We will also delve into a real-world use case from a current project, illustrating the tangible benefits and impact of implementing task flows.

This session will conclude with a look at the future roadmap and innovations, providing insights into upcoming features, ideas, and enhancements that will keep you at the forefront of task flow advancements. Join us to deepen your understanding and mastery of Task Flows, and take away practical knowledge that you can apply immediately to improve your data processing workflows.
