As a mom of 2 in her late thirties, Arit transitioned from being a homemaker (and a public health analyst before that) into Software Engineering. After completing the Firehose Project coding bootcamp, she landed her first developer job 6 months after graduating.

Arit currently works at Forem, an open source initiative that is building the next generation of ultra-customizable, data-respecting, privacy-obsessed online community software!

Motivated by how much support she has enjoyed as an early-career developer, Arit founded Our Time For Tech, a nonprofit program for women seeking to break into Tech.

Arit also blogs at arit.dev and maintains a YouTube channel called AritDeveloper.

Jekyll and Write: Engineer a Simple Blog using the Jekyll Static Site Generator

Jekyll is a static site generator that is built with Ruby. This workshop will introduce you to Jekyll; we shall engineer a simple blog.

All coding experience levels are welcome; some familiarity with HTML, CSS and Ruby is helpful but certainly not required!

I will provide any images you will need prior to the workshop. I will also provide a list of pre-workshop tasks; completing these will allow you to follow the workshop with minimal frustration. 😅

I will be coding this workshop on a Mac, using VSCode as my IDE. If you will be using a PC, I suggest you download GitHub Desktop for pushing your code upstream, as I am not familiar with Windows command-line interface.

This will be a low-pressure opportunity to build a cool application that you can show off! I hope to see you there!
