Ari Waller is currently serving full-time on the Developer Relations Team as the Meetup Event Manager for JFrog 🐸. Since the onset of the Covid-19 crisis, he has had the opportunity to organize, participate, and observe nearly 200 Virtual meetups, and is currently working with multiple technology communities in their quest to move back into an "in-person" / hybrid setting. Through this experience, Ari is committed to ensuring JFrog's core value of "community happiness" is a reality for the following Meetup Communities for which JFrog engages: DevOps, Kubernetes, Docker, Microservices, Java, C++, Go, Python, and JavaScript. Ari also currently serves as an Organizer for JFrog Global Meetups, Board of Advisors for the Garden State java JUG, an Organizer for the Docker Atlanta Meetup, and as a co-organizer for GoSF Meetup.

Ari has utilized this knowledge and expertise in multiple leadership capacities, while always remaining hands-on, as his passion is learning and engaging with the Technology Community Globally. Over the past few years, Ari sought to transform his platform to be authentically transparent and become an “open source” confidant for those who wanted IT career guidance. In this effort, he brings his expertise and job market insight to technical professionals at meetups, boot camps, conferences, and panels.

With the rest of his spare, he enjoys spending time with his wife and his many children; as well as building Star Wars Legos and watching the Atlanta Hawks. Ari graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia with a degree in Education.

The Meetup Community & DevRel: Why your approach isn't working.

The goal of DevRel is to create a mutually beneficial relationship between the company or organization and the developer community. However, the corporate “quick hit” sales and recruiting mentality tends to rear its ugly head in the approach many companies and DevRel org take with the Meetup Community. Once it becomes clear that the technical Meetup community does not want your “product pitch” talk, many companies tend to kick the Meetup community to the curb as a poor ROI, while their "true colors" are revealed to all.

In this talk, we will throw away all of the paradigms you may have about the Meetup Community and you leave with actionable steps to enhance your Company and DevRel team's mission, KPI, and ROI.

In this talk, you will leave with:

• Actionable items to maximize your organization's value to the Meetup and user groups communities

• The business cases you will want to use internally that will gain the support of your business stakeholders internally

• A winning approach to getting a response from the Meetup group leaders

• A checklist on which meetup communities you should be reaching out to and why
