Dr. Arkene Levy Johnston is a Professor of Medical Education and Assistant Dean of Community Engagement at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD). She completed her Ph.D. in Pharmacology at The University of the West Indies in Jamaica and post-doctoral studies at Moore’s Cancer at the University of California San Diego. Her research interests currently include health disparities and cultural competence curricular innovation. Through collaboration with the South Florida community, she is passionate about promoting health equity and fostering cultures of wellness and belonging.
Her currently funded projects focus on opioid abuse prevention in at-risk youth in South Florida and advancing equitable access to health and well-being. Dr Levy is also a two-time recipient of the IAMSE curricular innovation grant, the first (2020) focused on building an LGBTQ Proficiency curriculum for medical students and the most recent (2022) focuses on developing a toolkit for mitigating the imposter phenomenon in diverse medical student populations. She most recently worked with the AAMC to develop a toolkit to help medical students build their presentation skills.
