Dr. Arlene Garcia, PhD, is an educator, author, speaker and consultant. She has worked as an educator since 2001, more than 25 years, and speaks to colleges, schools, conferences, community groups and employers.

An Afro-Latina, first-generation college graduate and daughter of an immigrant, Dr. Garcia knows the gap she speaks about from the inside. In many working-class families, we learn to earn, pay bills and save what we can. We are not always taught the rules of investing, compound growth, fees and retirement accounts. She experienced that gap herself.

Then she saw her financial literacy students choose savings over investing because they feared losing money. She created Money Moves so they would have a safe place to learn, ask questions and build confidence. Money Moves lets students experience 40 simulated years of financial decisions, with changing markets and life happening along the way, without risking real money.

Her message: "Breaking the cycle means passing down financial knowledge alongside the work ethic."

Dr. Garcia is the author of Abundance Unleashed: The Money Moves Edition and Oh What Will You Do? Her keynote, "Earning Isn't Wealth: Breaking the Cycle," can be tailored for college and first-gen audiences, K-12 educators and conferences, and community groups and employers.
