Defending Digital Commerce in the Cloud Era: A Multi-Layered Approach to Payment Fraud Mitigation

In recent days, e-commerce payment fraud has evolved significantly, requiring sophisticated detection and mitigation strategies that operate at large scales on cloud infrastructures. In this talk, we will try to cover the approaches that can be used to combat various fraud vectors, including card testing, double dipping, automated bot attacks, and subscription trial abuse. We will cover strategies which rather than relying on a single defense mechanism, will be multi-layered across the cloud infrastructure and combine machine learning algorithms with rule-based systems to identify and prevent fraudulent activities in real time. We will discuss how we can use global edge servers and analyze request metadata and network characteristics to intercept suspicious traffic and prevent it from reaching our origin infrastructure.
In this presentation we will look into the usage of consortium data from multiple merchants/providers to enhance fraud intelligence capabilities and share examples where we successfully mitigated a sophisticated bot attack that threatened our platforms.
