Bent Pedersen has acquires over eight years of experience with Microsoft BI, SQL Server and C#/.NET, working both as internal and external consultant for a variety of companies across Denmark.

He is currently active as Senior Business Analytics Architect at Kapacity A/S, where he has been working with enterprise customers on solutions with SSAS Tabular, Datazen and SQL for the last three years. During the past year, he concentrated on working with devOps, Automation, testing and simplifying development processes for Microsoft BI.

Scripting Tabular models

Introducing the new scripting language for tabular models. Before SQL Server 2016 tabular models was wrapped into a multidimensional constructs. TOM is the new native library for tabular - this makes it easy to maintain, modify and deploy your model.

During this session I will go through and explain some examples and best practices on generating a SSAS tabular model by using the new TOM. I will spend some time showing and explaining a real world example on pushinga measure creation and changes to the key business stakeholders and to ensure quick time to market.

The last thing i will show is how you speed up your development free up up to 50% of the time you spend building tabular models with the simple and advanced features of Tabular Editor

Automate data extraction using ADFv2

A lot of new functionality and features have been introduced with Azure Data Factory. Using regular SSIS packages you have great flexibility using BIML.

As part of this session we will be looking into the automation functionality for ADFv2 and how you get started with data extraction and best practices using PowerShell for automation.

We will as well look into how this fits perfectly with Azure Logic apps for automation.

Automate your BI services and deployment

Since Azure Data Factory have been introduced it is now possible to automate all your Azure services for a successful BI platform without having to setup VM's and handle maintenance of these.

In this session we will have a deep dive into service automation and deployment for BI Services in Azure. When the services have been started and are available i will demonstrate the deployment automation for the different services.

At the end of this session we will have a full BI solution extracting, transforming and loading an on-premises OLTP solution.

Mindset for doing Data Warehouse in the cloud

Moving your BI solution to the cloud? In this session we will go through the consideration and components for data warehousing in the cloud and how these are used and integrated - and when to use which services when looking at:
- Data movement/migration
- Data storage
- Transformation
- Scheduling
- Deployment approach and methods
- Architecture for full cloud and hybrid setup

Second part of the session will focus on the differences and benefits of different approaches ( On-premises, IaaS, PaaS) the following perspectives to undertand and consider the right approach:
- Pricing
- Scalability
- Flexibility
- Strategic considerations

At the end of the session you will have recommendations for full cloud and hybrid BI setup as well as examples on costs for these.

Enterprise Power BI

With Power BI and a new enterprise reporting platform it is necessary to incorporate data governance and data stewardship to avoid dataset-hell and leverage data culture of your company.

As part of this session I will also cover architectural consideration which should be taken into account how performance can be a pain and how this should be addressed - especially having a company with branches all around the world.

We will go through the different ways of governing Power BI and working with it in your enterprise to manage the different assets within your organisation and leveraging a tool like Azure Data Catalog.
