Early Life
Born in Nsem, Bafut, in the North West Region of Cameroon, Fonge Bertin Amin-Shu grew up in a close-knit family of four, where he was the third-born child. His parents, both educators, instilled in him a deep appreciation for learning and its transformative power in society. At the age of four, Bertin moved to Buea, where he has lived for 18 years, shaping his worldview and ambitions. From an early age, he displayed a fascination with electrical appliances, tinkering with devices and unknowingly laying the foundation for his future in engineering. This curiosity, coupled with the intellectual environment fostered by his parents, set the stage for a life driven by innovation and discovery.
Education and Formative Years
Bertin’s educational journey began at St. Therese International Bilingual Nursery and Primary School in Buea. He continued his secondary education at prestigious institutions, including St. Joseph’s College Sasse, Government High School Bomaka, St. Therese Bilingual Comprehensive High School, and Fultang Bilingual High School, where he earned his O-Level and A-Level qualifications. His academic path culminated at the University of Buea’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering with a specialization in Software Engineering. Currently, Bertin is pursuing a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, driven by his belief that AI, ML, and cloud computing represent the present and future of technological advancement.
Career and Impact
Bertin has established himself as a skilled cloud professional and software engineer, with expertise in cloud orchestration, security, and scalable architecture. From October 2022 to April 2023, he worked as a Web Developer at Dfarma Ventures in Buea, contributing to the development of web-based solutions. From August 2023 to October 2024, he served as a Data Analyst at Bridge Labs, where he conducted predictive analyses, created impactful visualizations, and collaborated with machine learning engineers to drive data-driven decision-making.
His role as a Technical Support Engineer at Whale Cloud Technology Co., Ltd., in partnership with Orange Cameroon, from January 2024 to January 2025, further showcased his versatility. Based at the Makepe Orange Cameroon main office in Makepe, Douala, Littoral Region of Cameroon, which houses on-premise servers and advanced networking capabilities, Bertin supported regression testing, wrote SQL queries for Oracle and QMDB databases, and developed web APIs for telecommunications systems, enhancing operational efficiency. He also created and provisioned resources in Oracle Cloud, including Oracle Compute Instances and Block Storage Volumes, to support scalable and reliable infrastructure for telecommunications services.
Currently, Bertin is employed as a Backend Developer at Tangento Group, a web hosting company, where he leverages his expertise to build robust and scalable backend systems. In addition, Bertin founded Mbaniia Studio, a dynamic initiative offering services in cloud computing, UI/UX design, full-stack development, mobile development, SEO, and more. Through Mbaniia Studio, he empowers businesses and individuals by delivering innovative, tech-driven solutions tailored to their needs.
Bertin’s contributions extend beyond his professional roles. As the Ingressive for Good Buea Lead from September 2022 to September 2023, he led a thriving tech community at the University of Buea, organizing over ten virtual and in-person meetups and growing the community to over 250 active members. His mentorship program provided learning opportunities in various technologies, empowering the next generation of tech innovators. Bertin’s achievements include winning third place in the 2022 Ingressive for Good Hackathon and developing Internetid, a browser-based single sign-on solution for secure online experiences.
Personal Life and Values
Outside of his professional endeavors, Bertin is passionate about football, video games, music, and reading. His love for technology is rooted in its potential to improve lives, a belief that drives his work. As the third-born in his family, Bertin values his role as both a learner from his older siblings and a role model for his younger sibling.
