Charles Weir is a Research Fellow at Lancaster University and an occasional software architect. He passionate about improving the security skills of teams of professional software developers.

Previously he set up the mobile application development company, Penrillian, and ran it successfully for 15 years, employing up to thirty people and with a total turnover well over £30M. Charles also helped introduce object-oriented and agile methods to the UK, and was technical lead for the world’s first smartphone.

Charles specialises in interactive and engaging online events. He and Lucy Hunt ran the successful ‘Developer Centred Security Confer’ series of online events during lockdown 2020; and Charles now regularly supports people delivering the Developer Security Essentials series of interactive workshops online.
