Larger Than Life

I have officially been in the information technology business for about ten years, but I am going on 25 years of in-depth research into all things programming, math, and technology. I have had the absolute pleasure of working alongside fellow industry experts, developers, scientists, statisticians, and executives across nearly every field, including, Agriculture, Medicine, Finance, Manufacturing, Logistics, Energy, Software as Product, Consulting, and so many more!

Every day I do my best to mentor those around me, provide training, build specialized skills faster, and lead with kindness, patience, and a servant mentality. I have been able to provide my input and expertise to define cutting-edge solutions for the companies I consult with and help them achieve defined business goals. Now I'm using that skill set to bring patterns, practices, and strategies to developers as a Technical Evangelist with AppDynamics, a leader in the application performance industry.

Creating a Better Web for All: A Collaborative Adventure

Creating an inclusive and accessible web is a team effort, but it's also an adventure. In this talk, we'll explore the different roles and responsibilities that come into play when building an inclusive web, and how we can empower each other to make a difference. From product managers to UX designers, QA testers to business executives and even sales teams, we'll discover how everyone can play a role in creating a better web for all. With real-world examples, actionable tips and a healthy dose of humor, we'll embark on a journey to create a better web for all, together. The goal of this talk is to empower the audience to take an active role in making their products and services accessible to everyone and to encourage inclusive design thinking.

Spiking Neural Networks: The Future of Learning

Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) are a promising new approach to neural network design that have the potential to revolutionize the field of machine learning. SNNs model the behavior of biological neurons by using spikes, or discrete events, to represent the activation of the neurons. Unlike traditional artificial neural networks, SNNs can be processed using simple, low-power circuits, making them well-suited for use in resource-constrained environments such as mobile devices, IoT sensors and robotics. This talk will provide an overview of the current state of SNNs, including their strengths, limitations, and open research questions, as well as provide examples of recent applications that demonstrate the potential of SNNs in various fields such as image recognition, speech recognition and robotics.

Super secret software salary skills.

Every line of code you write is making someone money, but is it making you money?

Does your company spend millions for software or hardware they don’t use then pinch pennies on your position?

Does your company listen to the consultant even though you’ve told them the same thing a dozen times?

Join me in this session for some practical inside secrets that executives don’t want you to know. Unless, of course, you‘re already in control of your fortune, your finances, and your future.

The Future is Here: ChatGPT and Its Implications for Your Career and Company

We all knew something like this would happen one day. You go to bed one night with the world you know being one way and wake up the next day to a whole new paradigm and an uncertain future.

I think many of us thought the world was at least 5+ years away from this point in technology, but that future is now. My guess is you business, industry, business processes, and co-workers aren't ready for it. I want to help you be in a better position to talk to managers, executives, and employees about the impact of ChatGPT. I also want you to be able to turn this new world into the same kinds of opportunities individuals and companies had when the internet exploded in adoption in the 90s

Neural Networks: Where do I start?!?

Neural networks have made a massive comeback in the last five years. We went from having a simple multi-layer network in 1975-1995 to Now there are dozens of different architectures, languages, patterns, and problem spaces. Trying to decide where to start learning can feel incredibly daunting. I would like to help with that. I'm going to share with you my experiences from the field about what all the different architecture are from basic to latest and greatest. We'll also see what the different types of problems we can try to solve for (using cows) and how you can get started using them today in your projects.

Satellite Communication Made Easy

We all look up into the night sky and are amazed by the twinkling little lights buzzing around Earth's orbit. Human-made wonders are shooting invisible signal across the globe in the blink of an eye. Have you ever wondered about sending messages into space? Have you ever wanted to build a platform in remote locations but didn't know how you were going to connect to it?

In our connected world of fiber internet and cellular technology, it is easy to take for granted the readily available access to the internet, but there are a wealth of use cases in remote destinations where cell signal just doesn't go. So what do you do? Use satellites!

This presentation will go over how you can quickly build your very own satellite communication system using the Iridium network and Arduino. Armed with this knowledge you'll be set to take off into the exciting world of bringing communication anywhere in the world.

Blockchain: Will it help my business?

Cryptocurrencies are SOARING and talk about blockchain is on everyone's mind!

Will blockchain revolutionize your business?
What is a blockchain?
Why should I care?

I've been working with leaders in finance, logistics, manufacturing, and other industries to answer those very questions. The answers may surprise you. Together we'll find out what a blockchain is by building a straightforward sample on stage from scratch. We'll see the power of extremely distributed models. Then we'll talk about the impact to businesses and if blockchain is a technology that is truly right for your business and technical goals.

The Microservice Manifesto

Microservices have been a hot-button topic for a few years, but what are they, why would I need them, and how will they help me? The Microservice Manifesto sets out to put forward an opinionated but dogma-free approach to bringing Microservices into your organization regardless of language or technology stack that will help you get products delivered faster, more securely, and error free.

I've helped fortune 50-500 companies in the US and large organizations all over the globe tackle some of the worlds hardest challenges and get the most out of their software development lifecycle using microservices. So you'll learn the do's and don'ts that will make you more successful with your microservice implementations.
