Cherno Basiru Jallow is an AI engineer, computer vision researcher, startup co-founder, and Information Systems student from The Gambia. He works at the intersection of machine learning, research, and practical technology for real-world problems in Africa.

His experience includes AI research at the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at LSHTM, where he worked on computer vision systems and machine learning for healthcare, and his current work as a Young AI Expert Intern with the International Telecommunication Union. He has built systems across healthcare, energy, education, geospatial intelligence, and recruitment.

Cherno is a 1st-place winner of the NASA Space Apps Challenge Banjul 2025, a 2nd-place winner of the MRCG AI Hackathon, a Top 5 finalist in the UNICEF Digital Innovation Sprint, a full-grant recipient of Deep Learning Indaba 2026, and a Top 50 African Innovator. He is also the co-founder of Voltify, an IoT smart energy management startup, and co-founder and organizer of Hack4Gambia.

He has spoken at Google DevFest Banjul and PyCon Senegambia and is an accepted speaker for PyCon Austria 2026. Through CBJtech, his educational platform and YouTube channel, he shares practical lessons on AI, programming, research, and building a career in tech from Africa.
