If there’s one thing that software developers care about, it’s becoming even better software developers. There’s also a lot of demand out there for good developers. A great developer isn't an individual who is an expert coder or someone who can code in multiple languages. Whether you’re an experienced developer or you’ve just started your career, there are aspects of being a good developer that aren’t covered at university and mastering them will help you succeed.

These are essentially strategies Chris has practiced himself over the years, which he still uses even today. They have been a tremendous help to him in his career. He strongly believes if you try them, they’ll work for you as well. It would be difficult to list all the strategies but areas that will be covered in his talk will include:

• Improving problem solving skills
• Creativity as a developer
• How to stand out in the world of developers
• Learn how to learn (required skill for 4IR)

Whether it’s new programming languages or Java frameworks, companies need employees who can adapt to the latest technological developments.
Never before has it become important to be adaptable as a way to withstand the barrage of change coming at us. It is no longer IQ or EQ but AQ (Adaptability Quotient) that is increasingly important for all of us. We know the world is speeding up. The rate of technological change is accelerating. As we are in this transitional phase everybody feels anxious because we don’t know what’s coming, we don’t know if the future will be familiar.

The talk is designed to help professionals with a basic blueprint for obtaining agility and becoming adaptable through this transition. Chris will take you through principles on how organizations can boost and build adaptive capacity while the same time arm individuals with the tools to smoothly transition into this new world. Those that thrive are quick to read and act on signals of change.
