Chris Seferlis is a Director of Technology Strategy at Microsoft where, for the past 6+ years he has helped customers bring their technical strategies to reality with a heavy focus on how they are using their data.

A former CIO with over 25 years’ experience in IT and a deep background in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence, Chris brings a practical and theoretical approach to business technology challenges using a data driven mindset.

Chris holds an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, is a Microsoft Certified Trainer, and is a Lecturer at Boston University. He’s also a keynote speaker on the topics of Data, Innovation, and AI.

Finally, in 2023, Chris published the book A Practical Guide to Azure Cognitive Services and OpenAI; sure to be the first of publications highlighting the advantages of using AI and helping to maximize ROI and TCO.

Azure SQL Managed Instances - A *mostly* full-featured SQL Server in the Cloud

In this session we will compare the offerings of Azure SQL Databases, then dig in and show what separates SQL Managed Instances from the rest. We’ll take a look at challenges that previously prevented migrations to Azure, the current features available, some common architectures, and backup and restore options.

Azure Databricks – What makes it better?

In this session we will explore the differences between Databricks and its foundation Spark, how easy it is to get started, what the Azure difference is, what the architecture consists of and common workloads in which we’re seeing it being used.

Azure Data Factory Data Flows - Bringing the "T" in ELT

In this session we will demonstrate the latest feature of Azure Data Factory, Data Flows, the missing piece in the Extract Load and Transform process. We will cover the different functions available in "Limited Preview", and how they will help you to build a robust ELT Pipeline in Azure. Some prior experience with Data Factory, at least conceptually, would be beneficial for those attending.

The Modern Data Warehouse and Azure

In this session we will discuss how Azure is changing the approach to Data Warehousing and in some pretty dramatic ways. You can expect to learn how the Microsoft Reference Architectures are enabling organizations to deploy their data warehouses with virtually limitless scale and flexibility.
