Embedding WASM in the Future

This talk explores the success WebAssembly has already experienced in the embedded space. The huge positive impact WebAssembly could have across the wider embedded developer ecosystem in the future and the challenges we face as a community in making this a reality.

WebAssembly has already found success in a multitude of different devices including smart-TVs and set-top boxes. This is the beginning of a possible wider transformation in the embedded ecosystem, with an impact on everything from medical devices, through power-grids, robotics, and building management systems... WebAssembly has the potential to be as ubiquitous in the embedded and deeply integrated software world as the Linux container is on the web.

Realizing this future means enhancing WASM and WASI’s tooling support, and its promise of a low footprint, secure and highly performant platform, while still supporting the current wealth of Web and Cloud use cases. A tough challenge we will explore in more detail….
