Small, Specialist Models: What Are They and Why Do We All Need Them?

Everyone is excited about OSS LLMs, but what about OSS Small, Specialist Models? What are they, and why do we all need them? In this keynote, Christopher will first share the Enterprise CEO’s perspective on how they are navigating the AI landscape, including their fear of dependence and vendor lock-in re LLMs, the need for domain-specific agents in their operations, and their search for greater access to open-source AI technologies.

Christopher will also introduce OpenSSA, an open-source framework for Small Specialist Agents (SSAs), which are key to enhancing trust, reliability, and safety in Industrial-AI applications. Harnessing the power of domain expertise, SSAs operate either alone or in "teams". They collaborate with other SSAs, planners, and sensors/actuators to deliver real-world problem-solving capabilities.

He will close with specific recommendations and calls-to-action from his recent white paper, The Strategic CEO's Guide to Navigating the Al Landscape.
