A national leader in the SEL field, Clark McKown, Ph.D., has written and spoken extensively on improving the quality of SEL assessments and increasing the capacity of educators to use assessment data to improve teaching and learning. Clark was the lead author of a 2019 report describing the state of the field of SEL assessment. He is also the author of “Assessing Student Social and Emotional Learning: From Planning Through Action” (W.W. Norton & Company). Clark has been Principal Investigator on several federal and foundation grants whose purpose was to design, develop, validate, and scale social and emotional assessment systems.

Using Climate and Competence Assessment Data to Guide Practice: A Simulation-Based Workshop

Many educators assess school climate and/or student social and emotional competencies. Where they often get stuck is in knowing what actions to take based on what the assessment data say about students and learning. In this simulation-based workshop, participants will work in teams to interpret climate and competence assessment data and develop instructional plans based on what they learned.
