Daniel Pretz (he/him) is an artist, educator, and community leader with 15 years of professional experience working in residence life. He currently serves as Associate Director for Housing & Residence Life at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he oversees the housing and residence life program and supports the holistic development of conservatory students learning to live in community.

Dan’s approach to leadership is rooted in authenticity, relationships, and values-based mentorship. With a background in music theory and composition, he brings an artist’s lens to student development—viewing tension as an opportunity for transformation, and education as a deeply human, experiential, and interpretive process.

Whether designing RA training programs, mentoring new professionals, or composing and creating music, Dan feels most at home in the place where conflict and tension give way to beauty—and where care and compassion are allowed to inspire.
